Knowing When it’s an Emergency is Important!
If you have a serious medical emergency call 9-1-1 or go to your nearest Emergency Department.
If your condition is not urgent, please call Telehealth Ontario to determine what type of care you need. Call 1-866-797-0000 for free access to a registered nurse who will help with any health related question. They are available 24 hours every day of the year.
If you have a serious medical emergency, our Emergency Department (ED) is here for you 24 hours a day, seven days a week and 365 days a year.
As the only ED serving southwest Toronto, our top priority is to provide the community with excellent access to a variety of emergency services.
Our ED treats over 200 patients everyday. Whether someone arrives by ambulance or walks in, the ED health care team works together to care for them.
In 2012, we handled over 97,500 visits. We continue to be a leader in the delivery of innovative emergency care. We are one of the two best hospital performers in ambulance off-load times in the GTA, ensuring that ambulance crews are able to return to service in a timely way. We continue to invest in staff and new technology in order to improve patient care, streamline services, and reduce waiting times.
When you arrive:
The Triage Nurse starts your care by doing an assessment of your illness. This nurse uses the health information you provide to decide what area of the ED you would best be treated in. We have five separate areas in our ED: resuscitation; acute/urgent; pediatric; ambulatory care/fast track; and crisis.
Visitors are allowed anytime in the ER but we ask that only two stay with the patient. Under some circumstances, visitors may be asked to wait outside. Please see Visiting Information for more details.
The Emergency Department is located on the Ground Floor in the Barnicke Wing, just inside the Emergency Entrance. For information, please call 416-530-6003.
